CAJUN BUTTER BOURBON STEAK
About this Recipe
New York strip steak is a primal steak cut that can develop bold, robust flavors caused by the steak’s rich marbling. If NY strip steak is not readily available, a delicious option is thick-cut ribeye, which also has rich marbling to create full-bodied flavor.
Directions
- Mix together the ingredients for the Cajun seasoning blend. Generously sprinkle the seasoning all over the NY strip, then transfer to the refrigerator uncovered for roughly one hour.
- In the meantime, whisk together the marinate ingredients in a large bowl, saving half of the marinade for later.
- Add the steaks and cover the bowl.
- Marinate for a minimum of 30 minutes or up to 6 hours. The longer, the better!

Cajun Seasoning Blend
- 1 tsp. garlic powder
- 1 tsp. onion powder
- 1 tsp. dried oregano
- 1 tsp. dried parsley
- 1/2 tsp. freshly-ground black pepper
- 1 tsp. cayenne pepper
- 2 tsp. chili powder
- 1 tsp. kosher salt
- 1 tbsp. smoked paprika
- 1 tsp. sea salt
- 3 tbsp. unsalted butter
Marinade
- 1/4 cup dark brown sugar
- 2 tbsp. bourbon
- 4 cloves of garlic
- 1/3 cup olive oil
- 1 1/2 tbsp grain mustard
- 1 tsp. red pepper flakes
- 1/3 cup soy sauce
- 2 sprigs fresh thyme
